I wanted an extremely romantic maternity session as I have known this couple for years and know the incredible love they have for each other. Taking the photos at the Calgary Zoo’s Botanical Gardens did just the job on an incredibly snowy wintery day.

The day of the shoot the flakes were coming down thick and hard. Not only was the visibility really bad but there was just a dump of snow that day. We were on the fence whether to cancel the photos or to be troopers and conquer on. Well K getting her makeup done early that morning was the deciding factor on whether we went ahead with the photos. We packed ourselves up and headed down to the Zoo as there were some locations there in mind that would be perfect. We first started off in the Canadian Wilds section as there were some really awesome rock formations to use. The weather cleared up once we started shooting and the flakes were coming down beautifully. They made for some truly magical pictures as the snow covered their hair and jackets and they looked like they were in the midst of a winter wonderland, the type you see in the movies. After we shot some photos outside, we needed to get inside before K’s hair went flat so we found the botanical garden and shot in there. At the time of the shoot the Zoo put on this awesome Grinch exhibit and had little Who’s all over the place with colourful bulbs hanging from the ceiling. In order to get that romantic feel we needed to shoot around the exhibit for part of the shoot avoiding all the Who’s in the backdrop. About 10 minutes to the end of the shoot we incorporated them into the final photos which made for some really fun bright coloured ones.

Since these photos have been shot K&B have welcomed their bundle of joy into the world. We couldn’t be happier and prouder of them for being parents and wish them all the best with their growing little family. We look forward to staying in touch and seeing their boy grow up.
